James Maberly was born in Kenya, East Africa and was brought
up in what is now Zimbabwe. In 1975 he moved to England and
joined the British Army, serving for 5 years in the Royal
Scots Dragoon Guards. In 1980 he returned to Zimbabwe and
for several years worked all over Southern Africa in the
Transport Industry.
In 1988 he returned to England to study art
formally spending 2 years at the Ipswich School of Art and a
further 3 at the Norwich School of Art and Design, departing
with a BA (hons) degree in Fine Art. He now works from his studio
in Suffolk holding regular exhibitions across the UK. and travels
periodically to Zimbabwe. He is married with 4 children.
